When they copy your ideas but they're so powerful that you can't do anything!!
In January 2016 I presented my new collection at the Paris fair, born from the idea of the shoe-shirt, which I patented in all the main countries of the world. In this collection I also presented the décolleté in 3 types of leather and 3 of fabric. As in all fairs, the models are then published in magazines, social media, blogs, etc. In December 2016 the Katy Perry collection came out with an identical model of décolleté, only embellished with a small bow at the neck but which does not differentiate from my original idea, clearly copied. Keep in mind that there is protection on model copies for at least three years. As you can see alongside, our lawyers pointed out the plagiarism but we received no response. The Katy Perry collectionis part of one of the largest global distribution groups: Global Brands Group with offices all over the world.
In short, they continued to produce and sell that model, even expanding the range, nothing easier, starting from an innovative idea, for another 8/10 seasons.
They copy your idea, commercialize it, and since they are more powerful than you, they basically become the inventors.
The bad thing about this whole story is that despite the obvious plagiarism, designers have no tools to protect their ideas, except by going through international lawsuits that cost hundreds of thousands of euros.
There remains the mere satisfaction of knowing that your idea was sold in thousands of pieces for 7/8 consecutive years.
